Cloaking - Black Hat Search Engine Optimization

Cloaking as the name implies have the characteristic of concealing its identity to some or the others. In search engine points of view, cloaking is a technique of presenting different content or URL to users and SE crawlers. Google sees this way of serving content based on user agents as misleading and leds in the removal of web page from the Google index.

For instance, one may show its page as pure HTML text to crawlers but to user page having attractive flash, images or scripts. And the result help it to rank in search results.

Cloaking is done by two ways by delivering content

1)based on IP address.
2)based on user agents http.

Google Guidelines

Don't go for cloaking if your site contains flash, images or Javascripts rather think of informing your userrs about their presence in alternative ways,

  • Use Alt Text they will help your visitor identify the images or images turn off in browsers.
  • Javascript should be given in textual format in noscript tag. Make sure both javascript elements contains the same text (not even a minor changes).
