Easy Guys! Think of same Web Page available under different urls, this is possible by domain redirection(domain forwarding).

We people come to use this techniques on various situations and needs. Some i would reckon as:

1)Web user have the usual habit of storing urls in browser history and bookmarks favorites, url redirection makes sure that these user are guided to correct locations if there is some domain name changes.

2)Search engines have indexed your old urls and if these urls are redirected to updated urls, then your user will not be mislead. In the next crawling cycles robots will detect new urs.

3)You may have mistyped domains in address bar of your browser, and surprise to see some times to be directed on correct domain name web page.

Good companies buy all misspelled combination domains to make sure their user may not suffer bad experience while typing.

4)I bet you also come across this seldom situation, when you typed domain.net or domain.org and you are redirected to domain.com. People do this to keep all domain ext reserve for future use.

5)If you are fed up with your current domain name and want some change, domain  redirection (domain forwarding) is here for you.

6)Moving some of web pages of your website to another website domain name.

7)You finally decided to merge two websites into one single website.

8)Some times your web pages has longer domain name which are hard to remember and looks unappealing. Also these url doesn't fit well for the microblogging sites or web forms due to character limitation. 9)Redirection techniques has also been manipulated maliciously by black hat holders. You are landed on the web page that you are looking for but on clicking on your favorite links you are redirected to web pages that contain malicious content or asking you to download malwares. These techniques are also used to extract the Pagerank advantage of reputed pages(popularly known as google 302 redirect), but it is fixed now.


You might be aware of http protocols that are used to transfer information on internet, here we have server end 3 digit status codes (usually starts with 3XX for redirect cases) that are returned and urge browser to go from one to another adresses.

Standard HTTP Status codes for redirection are:-

1)300 web page with multiple choices like in different languages.

2)301 webpage moved permanently

3)302 moved temporarily

Effective SEO - Use Synonyms of Keywords

Use of synonyms of keywords sounds strange, but not more. Google has announced an another remarkable impact in history by making search engine capable of understanding synonyms of words in your query and displaying best search results. You will be surprised to see bolded synonyms words in search results along with parent words in your query.

Query "Pictures Developed with coffee" is synonym with another query ran internally "Photos Developed with coffee"

Yahoo Slurp - Web Crawlers

You are right!!

This is Yahoo Web indexing robot similar to Google bot discovering web document and generating a large searchable index. It follows only href link (note: src links are not followed by slurp) on the web page and that is how yahoo come to know about your newly made web page if it finds web page link on web pages that are already present in their index. Yahoo slurp can find you more easily if you are listed in ODP dmoz.org or Yahoo! Directory. If your web page is crawled by Yahoo! Slurp, that doesnt mean your web page will be available in search index. All Crawled documents are crosschecked at the next cycle of index.

Some meta tags to prevent Yahoo slurp action on web page are as follows:

<META NAME="robots" CONTENT="noindex">
Yahoo slurp will crawl the page but will not index this web page.

<META NAME="robots" CONTENT="nofollow">
Yahoo will not crawl any links present on this web page.

<META NAME="robots" CONTENT="noarchive">
Yahoo will not keep back up archive (cache) of web pages.(helpfull for the users if web page is offline)

Yahoo slurp also obey robot.txt guidelines and with its help you can prevent it to crawl websites or directories.

For ex:
User-agent: Slurp or "*" (Slurp is case sensitive)
Disallow: /cgi-bin/

Note: Even if you have disallowed the web page, but the Web page URL is kept by yahoo as thin documents with no content on it as a reference link from other public web pages.

Yahoo slurp makes request to your web server by determining the IP addresses, and you need to make sure that you host server handles these request as yahoo slurp consumes highest bandwidth if your web server having multiple IP addresses.

You can reduce Yahoo slurp activity by robot exclusion tags thereby disallowing unimportant documents. Also take care if your site is dynamic and duplicate url increasing crawling activity so use yahoo Dynamic Url Control in Yahoo! site explorer. Another useful robot tag is crawl rate control by which you can delay or increase the frequency of slurp crawling.
